Readers sent in hundreds of emails in response to our piece on the decline of Derek and other unfashionable names.

The Dereks
I was born in 1972 and christened Derek Edwin Grubb (despite never having appeared in a Dickens novel). I hated my name. From quite an early age, I cringed every time it was called. Even as a child I felt there was something not quite right with "Derek". Being from Liverpool, I was nicknamed Degsy.
