Governors from the 19 Northern states are seeking constitutional powers that will enable them (and other governors) to discipline judges serving in respective state judiciaries. Towards that goal, the governors have called for the establishment of judicial service commissions in each state. The commissions are to be empowered to appoint and discipline all state judicial officials.
In a communiqué issued at the end of their periodic meeting and signed by Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu of Niger State, the Northern Governors Forum stated that there should be a system known as the State Judicial Commission
